LowRush MusicIt is always interesting to learn the origin behind the name of companies, particularly gospel music labels. And, there is one in Social Circle, Georgia, that is named for the mother and father of the owner.

LowRush Music was formed in 1984. According to Alvin Lowery, “the name was given to me by my uncle Sonny Carter. He worked with Motown back in the 50’s. He managed The Four Tops. He also worked with Capitol Records in Los Angeles, California and managed Teddy Pendergrass. I mention to him that I wanted to start up a Gospel Label. I told him I needed a name for my record company. He said, your daddy last name is Lowery, and your mother last name is Rushton. This is how the name LowRush came about.”

LowRush first release was Move Satan by The Gospel Imperials of Huntsville, Alabama. The next group to join the label was The Veal Brothers from Gloster, Mississippi. Since that time, some of the other groups to joined the label have been The Golden Wings Quartet of Tupelo, Mississippi, The Cork Singers, The East Coast Pilgrimaires, The Gospel Express, the award winning The Gospel Incredibles, Leroy Burk & The Connection, The Messengers, Bishop J. D. Means, Sr., Solomonaires, Rev. R. L. Bush, the legendary Paul Beasley, and The Christian Souls.

The label’s mission is “to give unknown artist a chance to be heard on the radio, internet, and other means of communications.” We have watched closely the growth of this label. It is safe to say, they have also given some well known gospel groups the chance to, once again, be heard.
